SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - Mary Ann Williams, Program Director of the Keystone Vocational Program, has renewed Keystone’s Adopt-A-Spot agreement with the South Plainfield Clean Business Association for the next two years. She has been supervising this program for residents of the Community Residence at 154 Front Street since 1997. Only Timber Creek Landscaping’s Clinton Avenue Extension Adopt-A-Spot is of longer standing. A crew of ten to twelve people goes out every Thursday to remove litter and recyclables along both sides of Front Street between Sherban’s Diner and Maple Avenue. They also pull weeds from the curb, and sweep the curbs and sidewalks.
In a separate contract with the Clean Business Association, Keystone provides litter removal services at the Borough parks and municipal buildings spring through fall.
This Adopt-A-Spot is important to the downtown area. Studies have shown that people prefer to shop in a litter-free environment. The CBA is looking for more businesses to adopt spots in the commercial districts. Hamilton Boulevard, Church Street, South Plainfield Avenue and Oak Tree Avenue all attract litter. Plainfield Avenue between Sampton Avenue and the Middle School is another area that needs attention.
