Randolph, NJ: It’s amazing what stories develop from simple donations to the Morris Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore. The ReStore sells donated new or gently used furniture, appliances, building materials and much more, to help raise money for much needed affordable housing in the Morris County area. Recently, a large number of school desks were donated to the ReStore by the Peck School in Morristown. Not long after they were put out on the store floor for sale, they caught someone’s eye.
Wendy Patchin, Associate Director for the Foundation for Peace located in Ironia, bought more than 50 of these kids’ desks to send to a the small town of Zumbon just outside of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The Foundation for Peace just finished a three year project there to build a school, so these desks were just what was needed. The staff at the ReStore was thrilled that the Peck School’s generous donation, not only helped advance Habitat’s goals, but also will mean so much to youngsters in this impoverished area of the Caribbean.
The Foundation for Peace is a non-profit group that reaches out to thousands of people in a personal way to strengthen communities and churches and to help individuals through the provision of healthcare and education with their partners in the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Kenya. They are always looking for groups and individuals to join their mission teams. For more information about the organization check their website at http://www.foundationforpeace.org/
As Erin Quinn, ReStore Manager said, “It shows how these donations come full circle. People donate items that might just end up in a landfill, selling the items raises funds to help build Habitat homes, and in this case over 50 children in the Dominican Republic will also see benefits from the donation. How great is that!”
The ReStore stock is continually changing with donations coming in on a daily basis. Take advantage of the great savings to shop, or make a donation. You could be planting a seed that will grow in many directions!
