SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit Area YMCA Board of Trustees has announced the appointment of Paul Kieltyka as the organization’s new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective Jan. 20.
“Paul truly lives and breathes the Y’s mission,” commented Cindy Martin, Summit Area YMCA Board Chair and Chair of the CEO Search Committee. “We look forward to working with him on the next chapter in our 127-year history, as we continue to strengthen the foundations of our communities by nurturing the well-being of our children, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging a sense of social responsibility.”
Kieltyka has enjoyed a 19-year career with the YMCA. As the CEO of the Somerset Valley YMCA since 2009, Kieltyka worked in close partnership with volunteers, staff, and the community in providing direction for the $6.8M, three-branch association with 425 employees. Under his leadership, the association experienced rapid and progressive growth in almost every measureable metric from fund development to fiscal soundness. The Somerset Valley YMCA is recognized as a model of excellence for financial development, fiscal management, board development, facility development, staff development, and strategic planning.
While at the Somerset Valley YMCA, Kieltyka instituted an annual campaign fundraising model that has produced record staff and board giving levels. He raised nearly $800,000 in four years, and provided over $1.2 million in financial assistance and program subsidies (2009-2012). His emphasis on controlling expenses resulted in revenue growth, higher operating margins and, for the first time ever, a year-end surplus and reserve in 2012. Additionally, under his leadership, membership and program enrollment increased significantly, particularly in the areas of summer camp and aquatics.
From 2002 to 2009, Kieltyka served as executive director for the South Mountain YMCA, which is a branch of Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, the largest YMCA association in New Jersey. Previous positions held include Associate Executive Director at West Essex YMCA in Livingston (1998-2002) and Senior Program Director at Somerset Hills YMCA in Basking Ridge (1994-1998). He is also an active member of the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance. He earned an M.S. degree in Athletic Administration at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania.
“I am excited to continue my career at the Summit Area YMCA, an organization that truly believes in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility,” Kieltyka said. “The volunteers, staff, members and community have come to expect the highest in quality service from the Y. I look forward to continuing this stewardship, while also being an open community partner. I am honored to follow the great leaders of Summit Area YMCA like Darrell Johnson and I wish him nothing but the best in his retirement.”
