LAKE COMO/BELMAR, NJ — The Out of the Darkness Jersey Shore Walk will be held tomorrow morning, September 14, following a new route that will result in 16th Avenue being closed for about one-half hour at the start of the 9 a.m. event.

Nearly 1,400 participants have signed up for the two-mile walk that begins at Bar Anticipation, 703 16th Avenue, Lake Como, and continues eastbound on 16th Avenue into Belmar to Ocean Avenue. At that point, walkers will cross Ocean Avenue, turn left and proceed north on the boardwalk to First Avenue.

Once they have reached Ocean Avenue and crossed over to the boardwalk, 16th Avenue will be reopened, according to Belmar police.

Residents are asked to be mindful of the street closing during the walk and cooperate with public safety officials.

The event benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), which invests in new research, creates educational programs, advocates for public policy and supports survivors of suicide loss. It has set an ambitious goal of reducing the annual rate of suicide 20 percent by 2025.
