Three men were injured early this afternoon after an exterior stairwell at the Lake Mohawk Country Club collapsed. Approximately 50 people were in attendance at a birthday celebration being held in the Papoose Room located inside the historic Clubhouse, when three men stepped outside onto the stairwell to get some air.
The Stairwell is in excess of 50-feet in length. Without warning, a six-foot portion of the landing that the men were standing on broke free. The three men feel approximately 10-feet where they landed in a garden area. The victims were identified as; 61-year-old Salvatore Perreca of Denville, his 25-year-old son Kiel Perreca also of Denville and 30-year-old Daniel Kommoruski of Hackettstown.
The elder Perreca and his son suffered possible leg fractures and back and neck injuries. They were transported by the Sparta Volunteer First Aid Squad and the Ogdensburg First Aid Squad and Paramedics from St. Claire’s Hospital to the Rte. 517 Bypass where Atlantic Air #1 and Air #3 medivaced them to Morristown Hospital. Kommourski was also transported by the Sparta Volunteer First Aid Squad to Morristown Hospital for treatment for back and neck injuries.
The incident is under investigation by Sgt. Neil Spidaletto, Cpl. Louis Takacs and members of the Sparta Township Building Department.
