LIVINGSTON, NJ – The Livingston High boys basketball team, seeded 27th, defeated18th-seeded Arts in a game that came down to the last 20 seconds, when Sean Duffy scored the winning basket in a 62-60 victory in the preliminary round of the Essex County Tournament in Newark.
Livingston was ahead, 15-10, in the first quarter, but Arts outscoed the Lancers in the middle two quarters. However, these losing quarters didn’t discourage the Lancers, who won the fourth quarter, 19-13.
Duffy had 14 points, Kahlil Garnes had 15 points, and Andrew Katzeff and Omari Beaubien each had seven, while Arts’ Chidozie Akawuaku had 23 points, Tyre Moore had 17 and Jerrell Pruitt had nine.
The Lancers advance to the next round at the East Orange Campus on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
