Lancer Varsity Golf Finishes Third in Essex County Tournament

LIVINGSTON, NJ – On Tuesday, The Livingston High School (LHS) Varsity Golf team came in third place, with a total score of 320, at the Essex County Tournament, which was held at Hendrick’s Field Golf Course in Belleville. Seton Hall won the tournament, with a score of 308, while Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA) came in second place, two strokes behind, with a respectable 310. 

According to Lancer Coach John Waddon, this marked the sixth ‘place’ trophy in a row since last year that LHS has finished in the top three positions.

Coach Waddon said, “The Lancers were led by Ben Kim’s outstanding score of 78, while Zach Chaikin and Jacob Kaltman each finished with an 80.”

In addition, Lancer golfers Jared Appelbaum and Andrew Gottsegen shot an 82 and 89, respectively.

In Wednesday’s Lancer Flash News, Director of Athletics Patrick J. Genova said, “Congratulations to the Lancer golf team who finished in third place in the Essex County Golf Championships that were played yesterday at Hendricks Field.”

All five MKA golfers shot under 80.

For Seton Hall, Creighton Hendrix shot a 76 and Will Lane shot a 78. Players Eric Santangelo and Steve Gengaro shot 82 and 87, respectively.

Individual Scores: 1-Zach Potten, Seton Hall Prep, 72-m; 2-Sam Goldenring, Newark Academy, 72; 3-Creighton Hendrix, Seton Hall Prep 76; 4-Addison Bunn, Millburn, 77-m; and 5-Greg Hulse, Montclair Kimberley, 77-m; and -Griffin Kulick, Montclair Kimberley, 77. At number 7 with 78, were: Jacob Ruiz, Glen Ridge; Ben Kim, Livingston; Matt Goodman, Millburn; Ian Notkin, Montclair Kimberley; Ryan Napolia, Montclair Kimberley; and Will Lane, Seton Hall Prep.

The Lancers next hit the links, today, at 3:30 p.m., at Cedar Hill Country Club.
