LIVINGSTON, NJ - During the first weekend of March 2014 FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team Landroids #4220 from the Livingston Robotics Club (LRC) captured multiple top awards at the Vermont and New Jersey FTC State Championships during the first weekend of March 2014.
The Landroids won the 1st place Inspire Award, the highest honor given to the most well-rounded team, and the Winning Alliance Captain Award, the top recognition in robot performance, while ranked #1 out of 26 teams in robot performance at the Vermont State Championship on Saturday, March 1, 2014.
They then again competed in the New Jersey State FTC Championship on the following day and once again won the Division Finalist Alliance, while ranked #3 out of 24 teams in the Parkway Division. The team also scored over 400 points in two matches, which set the State record, but lost narrowly by one point in the elimination round. The Landroids team was also nominated for Innovate and Control Awards.
Earning these top honors, the Landroids team is guaranteed to advance to the East Super Regional Championship that is being held in York, Pennsylvania, during the first week of April. At the Championship, seventy-two top teams from 13 States including CT, DE, DC, ME, MD, MA, NY, NH, NJ, PA, RI, VT, and VA, will be competing for a slot at this year’s FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri.
Due to the tremendous growth in this high school-level robotics competition, a Super-Regional event for each quadrant of the US was introduced this year as a new advancement tier to allow FTC to maintain a sustainable event structure, continue offering merit-based advancement and increase the level of competition.
