Laugh Out Loud Fundraiser Set for November 16

October 9, 2013 at 11:40 AM

SUMMIT, NJ – The Summit Area YMCA will host Laugh Out Loud (LOL): An Evening of Comic Relief, a fundraising event featuring New York City comedians Adam Sank, who hails from Summit, Bryan Scott McFadden, and Ophira Eisenberg.   Guests will enjoy dessert, drinks, coffee and a live auction November 16 from 8 - 11 p.m. at The Grand Summit Hotel.  Ticket and private table sales are limited and the evening is expected to sell-out quickly.

The Laugh Out Loud event raises funds that contribute to the Y’s ability to support the community by providing financial aid to those cannot afford membership, as well as through subsidized health and wellness programs for children, adults and seniors.  “An old adage claims that laughter is the best medicine…most likely, because laughter has a positive affect by strengthening and energizing the body,” commented Darrell Johnson, President and CEO of the Summit Area YMCA.  “This uproarious event generates a lot of laughter, and I think it brings to life the Y’s mission of strengthening and energizing our community by connecting neighbors, relieving stress and adding joy to life.”

Over 20 volunteers and staff are giving of their time and talent to plan the fundraiser. The committee members include: Ceci Aristizabal, Charlotte Bashforth (Event Chair), Betty Budd,  Terri Clinton, Amanda Corredor, Jeanine Costa, Geeta DeSilva, Jodi English, Tiffany Escott, Laura Gump (Y Board Trustee and sister of comedian Adam Sank), Linda Haines, Ruby Hollingsworth, Caitlin Jensen, Darrell Johnson (President & CEO of the Summit Area YMCA), Joyce Klimaski, Stephanie Kramer, Britt Kuehn, Debbie Lupton, Anjali McCormick, Teresa Mendez, Lisa Meyers, Lucria Ortiz, Janet Russell, and Gosia Smerdel.

Charlotte Bashforth, Event Chair, remarked, “Is there a better way to give back to our community then coming out for a night with friends to enjoy top quality, laugh out loud comedy?”

Laura Gump, Summit Area YMCA Board Trustee, added, “Laugh Out Loud is a fantastic way to celebrate all that the Y does to make our community stronger and the incredible impact it has on lives, particularly for those who are struggling physically, emotionally or financially. It’s a very funny evening for a very meaningful cause…besides; it’s a great way to get a good abdominal workout, outside of the Y!”

The Summit Area YMCA is grateful for the generous support of Laugh Out Loud sponsors, including Lead Sponsors: Investors Bank and Merck Pharmaceuticals, as well as Event Sponsors: Smythe Volvo, Sum It Up Lacrosse, Sysco, and Batavia Café.  To further support the event, the Summit Area YMCA is offering local restaurants an opportunity to participate in a LOL Restaurant Coupon Book. There will be 2,500 LOL Restaurant Coupon Books distributed around the towns of Summit and Berkeley Heights. They will also be available  at the Summit Area YMCA’s three local branches (Summit YMCA is at 67 Maple Street in Summit, Berkeley Heights YMCA is 550 Springfield Avenue in Berkeley Heights, and The Learning Circle YMCA is at 95 Morris Avenue in Summit) during the weeks of October 21October 28 and November 4.

Tickets for Laugh Out Loud: An Evening of Comic Relief can be purchased by calling Caitlin Jensen at 908.738.2179.

Closed Fund Open Mind

Closed-end funds (CEFs) can play an important role in a diversified investment portfolio. They offer benefits similar to those of an open-end mutual fund, but also sport unique advantages.

Unlike a traditional open-end mutual fund, CEFs have a fixed number of shares available to trade. Their price is not tied to the value of the underlying portfolio. The only way the number of shares ...

Let’s make America the Greatest Show on Earth Again.

I was very sad to learn that after 146 years of big-top entertainment the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is folding its tent and leaving town.

This comes a year after the circus, due to mounting pressures from animal rights activists, got rid of the elephants.

It is not really ...
