Lava Lounge Owners Arrested

PATERSON, NJ - Police officers arrested the owners of the Lava Lounge night club on Friday and charged them with four criminal counts of maintaining a nuisance.

The club, on Montclair Avenue in the 6th Ward, has been the target of frequent complaints from area residents and city authorities often issue summonses there. The owners have maintained they are being harassed.

At 11:20 pm on Friday, Paterson police shut the club down for the night when they arrested two of the owners – Ghassan Adawai, 29, of Clifton and Mahmud Hammad, 35, of Rutherford, said Capt. Troy Oswald. The club doesn’t have an alcohol license.

They were charged with allowing customers to consume cognac, vodka and other hard liquors, with charging a $10 corking fee for the booze, with selling tobacco to minors and with allowing smoking inside their premises.
