CLARK, NJ - If it’s snowing outside, it’s time for ALJ to name their new January Student of the Month. This month, the honor goes to Lena Acosta. Acosta is a stellar academic student. Some of the classes she is enrolled in include AP Psychology, AP Human Geography, and Premedical Studies. She said her favorite is Psychology because she finds it extremely interesting to learn about the human mind.
Apart from classes, Acosta plays an active role in the school environment. She is a member of Key Club, Peer Leadership, National Honor Society, Student Council, Science Olympiad, and Scrub Club. Lena also takes on leadership roles in the form of being the social media representative for the Spanish National Honor Society and is the only senior representative for Drug Alliance.
Outside of school, Acosta works part-time at the YMCA as an aftercare counselor and is a member of a local youth group.
When speaking on the future, she said she plans to major in nursing and hopes to soon receive acceptance into the nursing program at her school of choice, Rutgers University. When asked what advice she would give for those trying to find success, Acosta said, “The best advice I can give is to have lots of goals, balance your time to be able to study and to have fun, and to not be afraid to take chances”.
