UNION, NJ — As the home of the first non-royal governor of New Jersey, William Livingston, Liberty Hall Museum was proud to participate in Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by running a food drive for The Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Organized by Museum Educator and Kean Alumni Anna Cafasso '11, Liberty Hall collected items such as toothbrushes, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food, baby supplies and much more. Donations came in from all over the area as well as out of state. A touching care package, addressed simply to the "People of New Jersey," came all the way from Pentucket Regional Middle School in West Newbury, MA, located approximately thirty minutes north of Boston. Pentucket teacher Shawn MacDonald and his 7th and 8th graders had organized their own relief drive, collecting personal hygiene items for residents of New Jersey devastated by the storm, as well as a number of handwritten "get well" cards and other personal messages of solidarity and support. Between the donations from West Newbury, MA and the local donations, Liberty Hall collected over 700 lbs of items for families in need.
