The musical, adapted for school aged performers, is based on the 2008 Broadway production and the 1989 animated feature film. The 7th and  8th grade cast & crew of fifty students are led by Chorus Teacher John Hellyer, and assisted by teachers Vince DeJesus, Patricia Richardson, Christina Alamo and Amy Shera.

“It’s been a dream of mine to direct this musical since I first saw the movie when I was the same age as my students are now. Last year we presented Little Shop of Horrors, the Broadway musical that got Alan Menken & Howard Ashman noticed by Disney.  Disney then hired them to write songs for THE LITTLE MERMAID. So, this is a fitting show to present this year.” says director John Hellyer.

This classic Disney title contains all of the songs from the Academy Award-winning animated feature film as well as several new songs from the Broadway show. The Little Mermaid  takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a beautiful young mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her family, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice.

Performances of Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID are open to the public. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased by visiting www.seatyourself.biz/lms

Getting a Handle on Thanksgiving

This year, on our National Day of Thanks, I would like to express my gratitude for having hands.

We typically don’t thank our body parts because they seldom leave us.  Most of us have not experienced unfortunate accidents or suffered the horrible consequences of war; tragic events  which might cause us to lose a limb.

Most of us take our fingers and hands and elbows ...
