WEST ORANGE, NJ - It may not be breaking news, but it was pretty remarkable. During the early morning thunderstorms of August 22, lightning struck the old pine tree at Holy Trinity Church at the corner of Main Street and Franklin Avenue. The lightning hit the top of the tree and traveled to its base, shattering the bark in a singular strip where the lightning struck.
Area residents had heard a large cracking sound during the thunderstorm.
The church will make sure the tree is checked by a professional.
