SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Little Shop of Comics (393 Park Ave.) will be among the thousands of stores around the world celebrating Free Comic Book Day by giving away dozens of different comic books in all genres on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Stores participating in Free Comic Book Day, celebrated annually on the first Saturday in May, will give more than 4.6 million freebies this year at in an effort to introduce as many people as possible to the wonders of comic books.
“When I think of Free Comic Book Day, I think of my 10-year-old self. ‘This is awesome,' is what I would have said,” explained Steven Olsen, co-owner of Little Shop of Comics. “It is an opportunity to share our passion for comics with the world.”
Tim Yates, professional comic book colorist and creator of Anne Bonnie will make a special guest appearance at A Little Shop of Comics signing autographs and sketching from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Copies of the sold-out first issue of Anne Bonnie, a series about a young pirate’s journey to be the very best, will be available for sale.
All free comic books will be sorted by age-appropriateness and the store’s staff will help choose the one that is best for the family. Giveaways will be provided on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. The store will be limiting three to four comics per person. Additionally one hard copy of the Mouse Guard Labyrinth Rust comic will be limited per family.
