Livingston Chamber Takes its 'Breakfast on the Road' to Jan Press Photo/Media

February 26, 2014 at 3:46 AM

LIVINGSTON, NJ - Recently, the Livingston Area Chamber of Commerce held its first “Breakfast on the Road,” meeting at Jan Press Photo/Media, which is located at 72 S. Livingston Ave. The meeting was well attended with many new faces joining for the first time.

A light bagel breakfast was served, complimentary of Press, who encouraged his guests to mingle, network and share business cards. Guests were also given a tour of the Jan Press Photo/Media facility.

Newly appointed Chamber President Monte Ehrenkranz,  vice president of business development for Regal Bank opened the meeting by explaining that in the past, the Chamber’s monthly breakfast meetings were generally always held at the same location. He said that for 2014, the Chamber has decided to “change things up a bit” by holding meetings at members’ places of business. The goal is for members to get to know one another better by seeing where each other works and learning about what fellow-members do for a living.

Ehrenkranz also said he hopes that moving the meetings around town will entice non-members to attend events and to learn about becoming a Chamber member.

Echoing Ehrenkranz’s sentiments, attendee, Barry P. Goldberg, who is the managing principal at Cornerstone Producers Group, LLC, a family-owned business said, “I think it (Breakfasts on the Road) is wonderful—it really gives us a chance to understand how each other's businesses operate.”

Like traditional meetings, everyone in attendance was invited to provide a brief elevator speech. And, Press, the host was encouraged to provide an in-depth overview of his business.

Attendees learned that Jan Press Photo/Media is an award-winning photography studio that offers portraiture, elegant wedding and Bar/Bat Mitzvah photography, effective commercial photography, professional video services, and more.

Known for their family portraits, Jan Press also helps families immortalize older family members for posterity through photography, enables pet lovers to commemorate their furry friends via portraits and aids families in capturing the joyful early days through creative first baby photos that often include parents and siblings.

In addition, Jan Press Photo/Media takes photos of people at work, offers photo retouching and the ability for clients to take pictures home the same day via memory stick.

And, with today’s world turning to online sources for making connections more than ever before—Press also offers headshots for use on dating and social media sites, as well as photography for websites.

“People only have a millisecond to make an impression online, so hopefully a great headshot will lead to their 15 minutes of fame,” said Press with a chuckle.

Press also showed attendees some of his favorite photos including one of Belva Plain that was taken for a book jacket and a photo of Deputy Mayor Michael Silverstein’s daughter. He also shared some of his and son Raime’s displayed “Found Art,” which are photos that belong to their creative collection.

When asked how she felt about the breakfast meeting, attendee and new Chamber member Bea Chaiklin said, "It was generously done."

Chaiklin a Mortgage Broker at NJ Lenders Corp said that she decided to become a new member "because of the people."

"I was very impressed with the members I already knew and also with the new people that I met (at Jan's)," added Chaiklin who services the Livingston area and is available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. "I've been a Livingston resident for over 40 years, and I thought it would be nice to be a part of the Chamber community."

Goldberg, who has been a Livingston resident for 14 years added, “This was the first time I had the opportunity to join a Chamber meeting. It was great to get to know other people in town who understand the challenges and rewards of running a business. I look forward to joining as a new member.”

The next breakfast meeting will be held on March 3, at 8:00 a.m. at Argyle Marketplace which is located at 359 E. Northfield Road. Members and non-members are invited to attend.

Man vs. Waze

A lot of strange cars are traveling through my quiet neighborhood these days.  They are not driven by my neighbors.  Some mornings I even have trouble getting out of my driveway.

Waze.

Ever since bridge repair closed a major thoroughfare near my house, the traffic on my sleepy street has increased dramatically.  And it is not by accident that commuters have figured out ...
