Livingston Girls Lacrosse Beats Millburn, 15-6; Jordy Bonvini Scores 200th Goal

April 8, 2014 at 3:39 PM

LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Livingston girls varsity lacrosse team defeated Millburn High School, 15-6, on Monday afternoon. Despite the bad weather, the Lancers played well as a unit to pull together a victory.

Right out of the gate, Livingston played strong and kept the play on the other half of the field for a majority of the game. Throughout the game, the girls held onto their lead, winning 6-3 at halftime, and scoring another nine in the second half to ensure their win.

Livingston’s offense had a strong game, with seniors Brittany Royce and Alyssa Egner both having four goals and an assist each. Jordy Bonvini also had three goals in the victory.

In addition to offense, Livingston’s defenders held strong against Millburn. Goalie Rebecca Kantor made a total of 10 saves.

The Lancers also took home their first Border Cup for the victory against Millburn. The Border Cup was established five years ago by the athletic departments at Livingston and Millburn High Schools and this is the first time that the Lancers have won the cup.

In a note to LHS student athletes, Director of Athletics Patrick J. Genova wrote,"We would like to congratulate the Lancer Varsity Girls Lacrosse team who defeated the Millers of Millburn HS this afternoon on the soggy turf at LHS to capture their first Border Cup. Congratulations to all of the girls and Head Coach Dave Cohen, Lila Alfaro and Jodi Mensch."

Another milestone reached in the game was that Jordy Bonvini, one of the leading senior athletes on the team, scored her 200th career lacrosse goal. Jordy is the all-time leading lacrosse goal scorer at LHS by a wide margin.

"Jordy is the all-time leading lacrosse goal scorer at LHS by a wide margin and we would like to congratulate her too," said Genova.

Even though it is still early in the season, this win provides the team with a positive outlook for the rest of the season’s games. Currently, their record is 3-3, with many games coming up in the next two months.

In other news, the Lancer Boys Varsity Lacrosse team captured the Jake Cup this past Thursday with their win over the Millers of Millburn High School by a score of 12-6.
