LIVINGSTON, NJ - On Wednesday evening, the Livingston Lancers girls soccer team punched their ticket to the semifinal round of the Essex County Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Caldwell in the quarterfinals.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Livingston squad wore pink jerseys while the Caldwell team sported pink headbands.
The Lancers came out aggressively and kept the ball on the visitor’s side of the field for the majority of the first half. Livingston had many attempts on goal that sailed high or wide and the score at the break was 0-0.
“No team in this county is an easy match. But I don’t think we played our best in the first half,” Livingston coach Paul Raiz said.
The second half began as a carbon copy of the first with missed shots and no score. Things began to pick up for Livingston around the ten minute mark as three goals were scored in a five minute span by Erica Dippold, Allie Beinhacker and Annie Werner. The fourth and final goal was punched in by Jordy Bonvini.
“The team really came alive in the second half and we were really excited because it was our first county game,” said Beinhacker.
The Lancers will play their semifinal match oon Saturday at 5 p.m. in Belleville.
