LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Livingston Municipal Court settled one case for the week of April 14 through April 20.
Mark Torres of Newark was charged with shoplifting, for attempting to steal $612 worth of merchandise at Lord and Taylor, and with criminal mischief, for damaging store property in the attempt of fleeing. Both charges, originally determined to be indictable, were downgraded by the Essex County Prosecutor’s office to the disorderly person’s level.
Torres plead guilty to both charges as written. For the charge of shoplifting, he was sentenced to serve 10 days of community service and to pay a $250 fine, $33 in court cost fees, $50 to the Victim of Crime Compensation Fund, and $75 to the Safe Neighborhood Fund. For the charge of criminal mischief, Torres was sentenced to pay a $250 fine, $33 in court cost fees, $50 to the Victim of Crime Compensation Fund, and $75 to the Safe Neighborhood Fund.
