Local Band 'On The Rox' in Concert Thursday, July 24

July 21, 2014 at 6:00 PM

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Local band On The Rox will be the featured act at the borough's Summer Concert Series this Thursday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Cindy Gelormini, a lifelong resident of New Providence who works as The Paint Diva, the color consultant at McGrath's Paint and Hardware, sings and leads worship at the 9:30 a.m. service at the Presbyterian Church in New Providence. Gelormini and Tony Carnevale, who has worked for the Borough of New Providence for the past 24 years, head up On The Rox.

They will partner again with all new musicians. Formerly The Jersey Souls, playing classic rock and plenty of Springsteen tunes, the new band On the Rox has added more variety. With the new country radio station NASH-FM 94.7 playing throughout the tri-state area, country music has become very popular recently. Gelormini will sing several country tunes, along with a couple pop tunes to add to her classic rock repertoire.

The band also features Detroit native Skip Myre on guitar. Myre played with bands Leslie West, Sponge, and Big Bully. Gary Willan of Hillsborough is on drums. Willan played with the Jersey Souls, Fin-Dicators and 20 Minutes to Monahan. Matawan resident Mike Feis is on guitar. Feis played at the Jersey Shore for the last nine years with The NJ Party Band. On bass is another New Providence resident, Steve Minolfo.

David Gelormini, Cindy's son who just graduated from New Providence High School in June, may join the band for some numbers. David was a pitcher for the Pioneers baseball team and was the kicker for the football team. David will be heading off to Salve Regina University to kick for the Seahawks in Newport, R.I. in August.

Anyone attending the concert at the gazebo is encouraged to bring a lawn chair or a blanket.

It’s Go Time.

This one goes out to all the juniors out there.

I can feel you squirming in your seats, “Who me?” Yes, you!  The time has come to turn that college dial up a notch.  “But I still have so much time left!”  But you really don’t.  Ideally in a year from now you’ll be sifting through acceptance letters and weighing college options ...

Let’s make America the Greatest Show on Earth Again.

I was very sad to learn that after 146 years of big-top entertainment the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is folding its tent and leaving town.
