SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Eight years ago, South Plainfield resident Kevin Kloza joined Stilo Paving & Excavating as a driver and, for the past five years, has been working for its sister company, Stilo Disposal.
"I really enjoy working here," said Kevin Kloza, a resident of the borough for 17 years, told TAPinto South Plainfield. "It’s a pleasure to be able to enjoy where and who you work with. We all share similar interests through our enthusiasm for the waste industry.”
Stilo Disposal opened its doors on South Clinton Avenue in 2015 and, over the past five years, has grown from a small, one-man show to a female-run business serving Middlesex, Somerset, Union, Hunterdon, and Monmouth counties. The company, which was started by resident Bob Stilo and is currently owned and operated by his daughter, Julie, specializes in 10-, 20-, and 30-yard roll off dumpsters for residential household projects and commercial construction sites. Additionally, it is A-901 licensed to haul both solid and hazardous waste.
Prior to joining the Stilo team, Kloza worked for a Newark-based company but, when the opportunity to work closer to home arose, he jumped on it. "I wasn’t really happy where I was and the commute was long, back and forth up the Turnpike each day, so when I was approached to come here, I took the opportunity. It all worked out," said Kloza, adding, "Now, the commute is just about two miles each way.”
As a driver, Kloza is responsible for maintaining his equipment, accommodating customers' needs, and most importantly, ensuring dumpsters are serviced safely and on schedule. He works Monday through Saturday and can often be found at the garage by 5:30 a.m. On an average day, he will make anywhere from six to 10 trips, delivering, picking up, switching out, and emptying commercial and residential containers. At a delivery site, he will also work with customers to ensure the proper placement of the container and answer any last-minute questions they may have.
Stilo Disposal, said Julie, prides itself on offering same day/next day delivery and, due to this commitment, has many repeat customers.
"We do our best to never let a service call go over 24 hours," she said, adding that the quick turnaround, along with its focus on customer service, is among the things that set her company apart from its competitors. "We've been told that they have never seen service like what we've been able to provide for them and that's a great compliment.
Kloza agrees that one of the things that sets Stilo apart is that it is a 'small, family run and operated business' dedicated to meeting customers' needs. "Our service is top notch and, 99-percent of the time, we can accommodate our customers' needs the same day. That says something for us, and I am proud to be a part of that."
Additionally, she said, much of the company's success is attributed to her drivers. "They have taught me so much; many of them were in the disposal industry for a long time before I got into it and we have worked collaboratively and learned from each other," Stilo said, adding, "They have helped so much and I don’t think they get enough credit for all that they do. It is not just the people in the office; it's the whole team that makes it work."
Of Kloza, she added, "He is a great employee and has a tremendous amount of experience. His attention to detail and willingness to help is an asset. He is a team player and cares for this company as if his own name were on the truck."
