NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The William Paca Club raised more than $1,000 at the “Love for Lucas” event on Sunday.

Named for 7-year-old New Providence resident Lucas Reiling, the event’s initial funds were raised directly from event sponsors to support the young local resident’s five-year battle with brain tumors.

“His family has just taken the first steps to build a handicap accessible addition on their home for Lucas,” event organizer and New Providence High School junior Alli Lamhing said. “[The funds] can also go to his medical bills or any equipment they need.”

Lamhing expects even more money to be raised, as ticket sales and day-of-event donations are not included in the initial amount.

Each attendees had a chance at winning a prize from the “Gift Card Tree."

Winners of the gift card raffle chose from a variety of local business donations including: Cartridge World, Skin Deep Salon and Spa, NP Fuel, Accessory Plus, Anna’s Restaurant, Indigo Gymnastics, Barth’s Market, Natale’s Pizza and Restaurant, Aryanna’s Hair and Cutters, Martial Arts for Life, and Tables for Two.

Event organizers also raffled off a LEGO set via a game of guess-the-number-of-gumballs-in-a-jar.

Musical entertainment was provided by Club Souren and members of the Paca Club, while Cindy Gelorimi, the Paint Diva of New Jersey, ran a face-painting station for the children. Everyone in attendance was also given an ice cream sundae from Zita’s Homemade Ice Cream.

Rutgers football stars Savon Huggins and Kaleb Johnson attended the event to spend quality time with Lucas.

Many local businesses contributed to fundraiser, while the entire event was staffed by volunteers led by Lamhing.

Lucas’s father Joseph Reiling said, “I’m always amazed at the power of a young girl, Alli, her capacity for caring, and how for how many years of her life she’s wanted to be involved with helping my son,”
