LPFD Responds to Mill Grove Apartments for Sparking Wires

April 8, 2014 at 7:46 PM

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Operations Center in Eagleville, the Lower Providence Township Fire Department was called out at 7:12 p.m. for a report of a building fire at Mill Grove Drive and Egypt Road.

The address is home to a major rental complex called Mill Grove Apartments.

Responding emergency units only included those from the LPTFD.

The LPTFD Assistant Fire Chief Eric Corbin, who responded to the scene, said that it was a “loose wire connection in a closet” that caused a teenage girl to panic and call for assistance. The wiring near an outlet was sparking due to a faulty connection.

Around 7:30 p.m., units were recalled and advised to “reduce speed” as first responders found the scene to not be a serious incident.

Responders on scene said, after their arrival, the occupying party of the apartment unit, who was on the premises at the time, said sparks were shooting from the location, but requested that the emergency calls be canceled.

The sight of fire crews in the area created fear for many that recalled that, just over a month ago, that the neighboring Audubon Courts apartment residents had suffered devastating losses from a major fire in the same vicinity. The cause of that fire is still under investigation.

No one was injured nor required rescue services in the Mill Grove matter. Only one unit was dispatched.
