TRENTON—On July 29, Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner Bob Martin will accompany Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno to Swartswood State Park and Spruce Run Recreation Area in continuation of the “Tourism Tuesdays’’ campaign, which highlights the many recreational alternatives to the Jersey Shore offered to residents and tourists throughout the state.
Lt. Governor Guadagno and Commissioner Martin will tour these locations to draw attention to natural and historical sites, which offer a variety of budget and family-friendly activities, such as camping, hiking, wildlife observation, and boating and other water recreation.
NEWTON—11 a.m. Lt. Governor Guadagno and Commissioner Martin will first tour Swartswood State Park, New Jersey’s first official State Park. The tour will commence on the beach of Swartswood Lake, a glacier-formed lake and main attraction of the park. After a history and overview of the park and region, Lt. Governor Guadagno and Commissioner Martin will meet with park staff, and tour the Swartswood campgrounds. Swartswood State Park is a popular destination for residents and non-residents, offering hiking, kayak rentals, campsites, life-guarded swimming, and more activities.
CLINTON—2:45 p.m., Lt. Governor Guadagno and Commissioner Martin will travel to Spruce Run Recreation Area, which is especially popular for its running trails and 15 miles of shoreline. Participants will meet on the beach. The Lt. Governor and the Commissioner will tour the shoreline, campgrounds, and boat launch, while hearing about the history and current status of Spruce Run. They will also meet and greet with the park staff. The Recreation Area is a popular destination for locals as well as day-trippers, especially those traveling from urban areas in search of time in a natural setting. Frequented by many fishermen, boaters, and wind-surfers, Spruce Run is the third largest reservoir in New Jersey.
Each event will last approximately one hour.
