Madison Baseball Team Advances in States with Win over Whippany Park


MADISON, NJ - Pitcher Gavin Wallace took a shutout into the seventh inning and finished with a two-hitter to lift Madison to a 6-3 varsity baseball victory over Whippany Park Monday in the first round of the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 2 state tournament.

Wallace struck out nine batters and walked only two. Madison staked him to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and added two more runs in the third and a pair more in the sixth inning.

Brian Chinni went 2-for-4 with a two-run single in the first inning. In the third, Mike Martirano singled in one run and M.J. Peterson delivered another with a well-executed squeeze bunt. Wallace had two hits and an RBI and Zach Evans was 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Dodgers (12-10-1).
