The Green Fair will take place at Green Village Road and Main Street by the Musuem of Early Trades and Crafts. Madisonians are invited to celebrate Earth Week by attending a festival dedicated to “Spring Cleaning.” The entertainment lineup is being put together by the Madison Arts and Culture Alliance (MACA). There will be food, beverages and a wealth of information and product ideas.

Visitors can bring shoes to be collected and reused, learn about bees and pollinators, pet baby goats, order a composter or rain barrel, get information on water quality and healthy yards and learn from companies and nonprofits offering products and services that promote energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, transportation alternatives and food options.

Residents can look at electric lawnmowers as well as Teslas and hybrid vehicles. Tours of the Half Moon House, designed by Chris Kellogg of Madison for LEED platinum certification, will be offered. Residents are encouraged to take pledges for healthy yards and biking to work and visit the new website of Sustainable Madison,, to pursue green initiatives throughout the year.

The Madison Environmental Commission, co-hosts of the event, will showcase the major environmental preservation project in Madison: the restoration of the wetlands in the Madison Recreation Center area. The restoration will boost the quality of the water that recharges Madison’s aquifer. Invasive plant removal, fencing to keep the deer out and replanting of native plants are an ongoing community project that begins Saturday, April 26. Volunteers are welcomed.

Boy Scout Troop 25 will turn a spotlight on the many Eagle Scout projects that make walking in Madison woods more accessible and that encourage wildlife such as bluebirds. The Boy Scouts work throughout the year to improve the environment in Madison.
