Madison Junior School Girls Basketball Highlights

January 30, 2014 at 11:22 AM

MADISON, NJ - Every year, Madison Junior School has tryouts for the girls’ basketball team. Approximately 18 people tried out for the team this year, but only about 14 girls made it. Those girls included Jen Conroy, Emma Schermerhorn, Kayla Bailey, Courtney Bland, Caroline Blount, Grace Donato, Melanie Finn, Sage Geyer, Sophia Haralampoudis, Jessica Lusardi, Chloe O’Connell, Mitra Sharif, Leah Rutland, and Caroline Winsper.

The team began practicing before Thanksgiving and their first game was Dec. 4 away against East Hanover. The season lasted until the team was eliminated in the tournament on Jan. 24.

The team’s best game was when they played against Villa Walsh. It was a really close game. At first, Villa Walsh was in the lead but the Dodgers caught up in a matter of time. The game went into overtime but Dodgers won in the end.

Overall, their season has had some ups and downs. Their record heading into the tournament was 3-8, but there was steady progress shown as the season moved on. The team is full of great players and there was not always the same leading scorer in each game. For majority of the games, the starters were Mitra Sharif, Leah Rutland, Chloe O’Connell, Courtney Bland, Caroline Blount, and Sage Geyer. Since Rutland, O’Connell, and Bland are all seventh graders, MJS is planning on having a strong and experienced team next year.  The team was led by Coach Anthony Finn. Mr. Finn works at Kings Road School and also coaches the girls’ soccer team at MJS.

Our Town

December 5, 2016

To the Editor:

The past few years have brought on a numerous number of debates, the Redevelopment Act, new town hall, change in our downtown area, the Supreme Court ruling on COAH to name a few. Many of you know I do not agree with some of the above BUT I am only one person. I have learned to sit and study the different situations to understand them by researching.
The other thing that we ...

Which is Best: Lump Sum or Pension Annuity?

A number of employers dangle a lump sum offer to employees in part to remove future liabilities from their balance sheets. It’s tempting for ...
