On July 13, 2013 at approximately 8:20 a.m., Patrolman Luis Goncalves arrested 47 year old Mark Ferrara of Madison, NJ. Goncalves encountered Ferrara while on patrol. It was known to Goncalves that Ferrara was wanted by various municipalities for multiple active warrants. Ferrara’s highest bail was for $50,000 from South Orange Municipal Court. Ferrara was arrested and transferred over to South Orange Police in lieu of bail.

On July 17, 2013 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a resident of Sherwood Avenue in Madison reported that his son’s bicycle had been stolen. According to the resident, the bicycle was taken from a friend’s residence on Longview Avenue. The bicycle is described as a blue “Motiv”. Along with the bicycle was a silver “Specialized” helmet which was also taken. This investigation has been turned over to the Madison Police Detective Bureau. On July 19, 2013, a female patron of the Madison Stop & Shop reported a theft of her wallet. After making a purchase at the store, the patron loaded her vehicle with her packages. When she arrived home, she realized that her wallet was not in her possession. The patron believes that her wallet was left in the shopping cart and that someone took it. This investigation has been turned over to the Madison Police Detective Bureau. Anyone having information regarding the theft is urged to contact Detective Ken Shannon at (973) 593-3004.

On July 21, 2013, a temporary resident of Drew University reported that her room had been entered and a small purse containing cash and credit cards was taken. No witnesses were available at the time. This incident is being investigated by the Madison Police Detective Bureau. Anyone having information is asked to contact the Madison Police at (973) 593-3000.

On July 23, 2013 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Sgt. Sean Plumstead arrested 22-year-old Benjamin Canning of Palmer, Mass. Plumstead stopped Canning’s vehicle for speeding. During his investigation, Plumstead observed, in plain view, evidence of alleged marijuana use. Canning was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance inside of a motor vehicle. Canning was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.

On July 24, 2013, an employee of the Playwright Theater at the Green Village Road School reported a burglary with criminal mischief to the building. It is unknown when the incident took place and there were no witnesses available. The incident is being investigated by the Madison Police Detective Bureau. Anyone having information is asked to contact the Madison Police at (973) 593-3000.
