On Friday May 16 at 7:30 Grace Community Music will present a concert by The Harry Ensemble (THE). THE HARRY ENSEMBLE is a choir that convenes to perform and promote British - and particularly Celtic - Choral Music, in the UK and abroad. They maintain high standards of choral performance and members are drawn from choral societies and singing groups from across Britain. They are directed by Edward-Rhys Harry, with Jonathan Ryan at the organ in a program that includes Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, Rutter’s Mass of the Children, and Finzi’s Lo, the Full Final Sacrifice.. Admission is by freewill donation at the door and a reception follows.
Grace Community Music Artistic Director, Dr. Anne Matlack explains “I hope you all will come out to show them a good American warm welcome! Included in this choir are members and children of people Harmonium Choral Society collaborated with on our very first tour, England 1995. An English Choir from the village of Corsley hosted us on the fourth of July (1995) by PACKING the church for our concert, inviting me to conduct THEM in two spirituals, and JOINING with us in one, while we joined them in Parry’s Jerusalem. Bell were change-rung, an honor guard on horseback welcomed us, and afterwards we were treated to a full repast in a countryside mansion with free-flowing wine and lots of impromptu singing. Do you see that I am feeling a bit of pressure to really have a good audience? Members of the Grace Church choirs and Harmonium Choral Society will join with the singers in an English folksong (“Blow the Wind Southerly” arranged by Harry, which should be a stunning finale!”
