MADISON, NJ - The METC at the heart of Madison, housed in an 1899 building, has too many educational programs, professional presentations, events and activities to name. Look for their regular column at The Alternative Press-Madison in weeks to come where you can hear from the museum staff about the history of exhibits, collections, artifacts and more.
The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts currently presents “The Work of Play” through August 31. Go back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and enjoy the ‘history of leisure’ related to toys and games of America, the story of American print, how gossip, gin and games all came together in the taverns and how music was only live in those times. “We’re happy to conduct group tours of the exhibit as well,” said Siobhan Fitzpatrick, Curator of the museum. A tour promises more knowledge than anyone can experience on their own.
Their upcoming presentation will begin September 8th - Ghosts, Ghouls and Gravestones; The Trades of Burial. “ Did you know that the state of New Jersey figures prominently in the development of the hearse and that some famous figures are buried at the Hillside Cemetery in Madison?” Fitzpatrick said. There’s a lot to learn about the history of ‘six feet under’ and ‘pushing up daises’.
