CHATHAM, NJ - Morgan Maltby made 16 saves and the Chatham defense held its own as 18th-ranked Randolph came to Cougar Night on Friday and left with a 2-0 victory.
The Chatham girls soccer team kicked off Friday's Cougar Night festivities by taking on18th-ranked in the state, Randolph under the lights at Cougar Field. Lindsey Aloia, Kara McMahon and the rest of the Chatham defensive alignment were up for the task breaking up a persistent Randolph attack.
Maltby came up big a number of times in the first half to keep Randolph off the board. The Lady Cougars created a few scoring chances of their own, but came up short and the half ended with both teams failing to put a number on the board.
Randolph ramped up their attack in the second half and Chatham continued to deflect and break up opportunities. In the 20th minute of the second half, Randolph's Anna Conklin finally converted on a penalty kick that just beat the Chatham keeper to her right side to go up 1-0. Randolph took a 2-0
lead on a breakaway when Conklin received a ball behind the Chatham line and pushed it past the keeper.
The Lady Cougars return to the field on Tuesday vs. West Morris Central at home.
