Man Charged With DWI In Crash That Killed 63-Year-Old Elizabeth Woman

ELIZABETH, NJ - A local man was arrested in connection with a fatal accident this week that killed a 63-year-old woman, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park said today.

Sergio Gomez Ochoa, 36, was charged with driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic offenses in connection with the crash that killed Everett Ewan of Elizabeth, officials said.

Ochoa allegedly left a bar on Dowd Avenue after midnight Tuesday and then drove the wrong way onto a nearby highway ramp where he struck an oncoming vehicle being driven by Ewan, according to an investigation by authorities.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ochoa was taken to University Hospital in Newark, authorities said. 

The investigation is continuing and involves the Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Homicide Task Force and Union County Sheriff’s Office.
