February 22, 2014 at 10:52 AM

PATERSON, NJ - An unidentified male was in critical condition Saturday after an early morning shooting near an Ellison Street strip mall.

According to Lt. Patrick Murray, the victim was found in the parking lot of a strip mall at 494 Ellison St. with multiple bullet wounds in his upper torso at around 4:15 a.m. after patrol units were dispatched upon being prompted by the ShotSpotter in the area.

"Initial investigation suggests that the victim may have just left a house party in the area and may have been involved in an altercation before being shot," Murray said. "Detectives are currently attempting to confirm the victim’s identity, canvassing the area for witnesses and area surveillance footage, and the investigation is continuing at this time.

The shooting is the third in the city in the last two days. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives Rolando Polio or Edgar Taylor of the Ceasefire Unit at (973) 321-1342.
