Man Jumps to His Death, and More from Millburn PD

MILLBURN, NJ – The following items were reported by the Millburn Police Department:

On January 10, 2014 at 4:20 p.m., Millburn Police responded to the Mall at Short Hills on a report by mall security of man acting suspiciously on parking deck level 4 by Macy’s. Upon officers arrival they observed a male fitting the description given to them by mall security.  As the officers approached the individual he began to move toward the edge of the parking deck, climbing up to the ledge, and fell.  The 58-year-old male from Union was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.  The investigation is ongoing.  Preliminary indications are that the male committed suicide.

On January 12, 2014, at 1:20 a.m., a resident of Wyoming Avenue reported that three persons he believed to be juveniles had pulled the “Pedestrian Crossing” sign from Wyoming Avenue at the intersection of Cypress Street.  Officers also noticed that the barricade and traffic cones that are left near the corner for school crossing were thrown about the intersection.  The juveniles fled the area prior to the officers’ arrival.

On January 12, 2014, at 3:30 p.m., Officer Michael Tichenor responded to the BCBG Max Azria store located at The Mall at Short Hills on a report that a shoplifting had just occurred.  The assistant store manager reported that a female had selected a $548 dress and entered the fitting room and later exited the fitting room without the dress.  The manager then entered the fitting room and discovered the dress missing and a security sensor on the floor.  Officers located a person fitting the suspect’s description and recovered the dress.  Ms. Daphne Bonneau, age 28, of Brooklyn, NY, was arrested and charged with shoplifting and was released pending her first court appearance on January 22, 2014, in Newark.
