Man Jumps to His Death at The Mall at Short Hills

SHORT HILLS, NJ – A 58-year-old man from Union, NJ, jumped from the fourth level of a parking deck at The Mall at Short Hills on Friday, according to Millburn Police.  He was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital and died later that day due to the injuries sustained in the fall.

Police had responded at approximately 4:20 p.m. to a report of a man acting suspiciously on parking deck level 4 near Macy’s. According to the report issued by the Millburn Police, when the officers arrived, they observed a man fitting the description that had been given to them by mall security.

As the officers began to approach the man, he moved toward the edge of the parking deck.  He then climbed up to the ledge.  Before the officers could reach the man, he fell to the ground below.

The report indicates that it was the feeling of the officers on the scene that the man jumped from the ledge, rather than fell accidentally.  The reasons for the man's behavior and actions are unknown at this time.  The investigation is ongoing.
