SHORT HILLS, NJ – A man was shot in a parking lot at the Short Hills Mall at about 9 p.m. on Sunday and was pronounced dead at Morristown Medical Center at 11:45 p.m.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray stated that this was a carjacking of a silver 2012 Range Rover NJ with license plate U26-BVD. The suspects being sought are two African-American males who reportedly drove east after fleeing in the vehicle.
The victim, a 30-year-old male from Hudson County, was transported to Morristown Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim's wife was also injured in the incident and was was also sent for treatment at Morristown Medical Center. Her injuries were said to be minor.
The suspects are said to have approached the couple as they were entering their vehicle on the third level of the parking deck near Nordstrom after shopping at the mall.
The mall was locked down for about 45 minutes following the incident, but when it became clear that the suspects had fled the scene, people were allowed to leave.
