Middlesex Borough police received a 911 call reporting shots fired and a wounded man at the Farm Lane residence at 7:36 p.m. Jan. 9; Middlesex police relayed the call to Bound Brook police who responded to the residence where they located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds outside.

Police and medical personnel initiated life saving measures before transporting Coulanges to an area trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crimes Scene Investigations Unit along with detectives from the Bound Brook Police Department arrived to conduct the investigation.

They determined that a man who lived at the Farm Lane residence knew the victim and that Coulanges brandished a semi-automatic handgun before a fight broke out between the two with the acquaintance gaining control of the weapon and firing the gun at Coulanges.

The investigation is being treated as an isolated incident. Police have not determined why the victim confronted the Farm Lane resident or why he was on the property.

An autopsy is being performed by the New Jersey Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Newark, New Jersey to determine the cause of death.
