CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — A Camden County man, missing since Dec. 23, has been charged in the homicide of a Gloucester Township resident.

Shawn Massey, 38, of Gibbsboro, was charged Saturday with one count of first-degree murder in connection to the death of 54-year-old Joseph Bottino.

Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill Mayer and Pine Hill Police Chief Christopher Winters said a search for Massey continues nearly a month later.

“We understand many people are concerned that an arrest has not been made. Since the crime, there has been an increased law enforcement presence in that area, and we have conducted multiple, coordinated searches in an effort to locate Massey,” said Mayer. “We have also received dozens of tips on possible sightings and whereabouts of Massey and are following up and taking each and every one very seriously. We have detectives working at all hours on this case and we will continue to do so until Massey is located.”

On Dec. 23, Pine Hill officers responded to the 100 block of Watsontown-New Freedom Rd. around 6:30 p.m. after Bottino was found dead with "visible traumatic injuries."

An autopsy found Bottino died from blunt force injuries, as well as multiple stab and incise wounds.

Detectives reportedly collected evidence linking Massey to the homicide but were unable to locate him.

"When detectives went to speak to Massey in the days after the murder, his family members reported him missing and said they had not heard from him since Dec. 23," the prosecutor's office said.
