Maplewood Community Music Presents Classical Children’s Concert & Music Blast Off!

Credits: Gabriel Anthony

MAPLEWOOD, NJ ― Maplewood Community Music continues its 2013 – 2014 season with its Annual Children’s Concert designed for students of all ages and their families on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 3 – 4 p.m. at the Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Road, Maplewood, NJ.  Immediately following the concert, MCM will hold its first ever Music Blast Off!  This music activities event for kids will take place from 4 – 5 p.m.  Both the concert and activities event are free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Tom McGee, the Maplewood Community Band will perform its annual concert for children ― the cornerstone of its youth music enrichment programs – including selections from the Renaissance, Romantic and Modern eras of music.  Children (and their parents) just might find themselves marching in the aisles to Gustav Holst or dancing to the folk themes of Georges Bizet.  Hearing the echoing style of Giavonni Gabrieli may inspire listeners to respond to the calls of the smaller instrumental choirs.

After the concert, join us at Music Blast Off! where kids will have a “blast” as they “blast off” into the exciting and inspiring world of music. By moving the music off the stage, children and their families will be able to interact with our musicians as they demonstrate their instruments, try out the instrument zoo, play music-based games and have fun with other music activities.

“Our organization is proud to present family-friendly concerts in our community and give parents the opportunity to share cultural music experiences with their children” said Kerrie Hurford, the president of the Maplewood Community Music organization. “This year, we are incredibly excited to offer not only our concert, but also engage the kids in music close up with this eyes, ears and hands-on event.”

Maplewood Community Music’s concert season will end with its annual outdoor Summer Concert.  The Maplewood Community Band will perform on Sunday, July 21, 2013 beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Memorial Park Amphitheatre in Maplewood.
