MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Maplewood Deli & Grille held its grand reopening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Mayor Victor DeLuca joined new chef/owner Eric Gurny and many others to celebrate this community event. Gurny and his staff provided complimentary samples of some favorite menu items.
“The menu far exceeds your usual deli menu,” Gurny said. “I enjoy infusing global flavors into my cooking, whether itʼs Thai, Mexican, or Jamaican.”
The renovated Maplewood Deli & Grille offers casual dining with a new menu that offers many fresh, innovative items, including some gluten free and vegetarian options. Of course, there are still some old favorites, as well.
Gurny grew up in Short Hills, where he attended Millburn High School, and is a graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. He has been the chef at a number of excellent restaurants in New York City and New Jersey. He said he has always wanted to come back home and open a neighborhood restaurant.
The Maplewood Deli & Grille is located at 149 Maplewood Ave., Maplewood; (973) 762-6688; www.maplewooddeli.com.
