MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The United States Post Ofiice has signed a lease extension with the township to remain in its current downtown location through Jan. 9, 2014, Mayor Victor DeLuca said at the Township Committee meeting on Monday evening.
In a letter to DeLuca, the township was also informed that the Postal Service is considering the property located at 1830 Springfield Ave. as a possible new location. This address is near Springfield Avenue's intersection with Oberlin Street.
They had also considered 1505 Springfield Ave. and 220 Rutgers St., but have ruled out both, citing unacceptable expense and time that would be needed to renovate those sites.
As is their policy, the Postal Service is inviting members of the community to offer written comments on this property within the next 30 days. Letters should be directed to:
