Maplewood Residents Open Organic Baby Business

Alex Rizos and Olivia Bonner

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Two Maplewood residents have transformed their passion for organic nutrition into a business, while paving the way for a new member of their family.

Olivia Bonner and Alex Rizos have launched, an online business which provides all kinds of natural products for babies.

“We had the idea a few months ago and wanted to start a project we were passionate about,” said Bonner. “In the last year I have had a big change in my diet and was more conscious of where my food is coming from and the products I use on my body.”

Now engaged, they would like to start a family in the next year and Bonner is already prepping and trying to get healthier for when she gets pregnant. She began doing research into healthy eating during pregnancy and how to feed your baby.

After some research the couple discovered a gap in the market which provided potential for a business that was in line with their goal of starting a family.

“We saw a lot about feeding baby in an organic way, but haven't seen a store devoted to that,” she said.

The online store now sells everything from wrist bands that alleviate morning sickness to chemical-free eating sets and containers, bamboo forks, knives and bowls.  Both owners have a background in design and branding and are drawn to products that are visually appealing.

“Just because it's organic doesn't mean you have to compromise on aesthetics,” said Bonner.

The store has already received a lot of attention since opening in December 2013 and almost immediately surpassed 100 Facebook Likes.

“We haven't expected that kind of outpouring,” she said. “Now we can add more products we think fill the gap and create a dialogue between us and customers to see what they want to see on the site.”

Both Bonner and Rizos welcome feedback and requests from customers. One customer tweeted them asking if they carry vegan supplements so they immediately tagged tall the vegan products so they were easier to find. If a customer cannot find a product, they are urged to contact My Baby is Organic with a request.

“That's the thing we want to be able to do,” said Bonner. “Money making isn't our only objective. We want feedback from customers because it makes for a more personal experience.

My Baby is Organic is now providing a special discount code for Maplewood residents. Through the end of March, residents can use the code MAPLEWOOD to receive free shipping.
