Maplewood Shopkeeper Shot in Alleged Robbery Attempt


MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The owner of MS&K Confectionary Store on Prospect Street was shot and injured during an alleged robbery attempt on Monday, according to police.

The shopkeeper, whose identity has not been disclosed,  is being treated at University Hospital in Newark for a gunshot wound to the torso.

According to police, an unidentified gunman entered the store, pulled out a handgun and told the owner to open the cash register.

They said a struggle followed, and then the gunman shot the shopkeeper and fled.  It was not yet known what the gunman stole from the store.
