Montclair Public Library proudly presents master tap-dancer Maurice Chestnut. Mr. Chestnut, along with professional tap dancers, will dance to hip hop and jazz songs by musicians such as Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis. His presentation is a labor of love in homage to the invaluable artistic contributions by African American artists. Maurice, a native of Newark, began dancing at the age of nine with Deborah Mitchell’s New Jersey Tap Ensemble.
He has performed with Savion Glover and Bare Soundz, jazz artist Christian McBride, and is presently headlining sold out shows at NJPAC. His tap dancing and energy resonates with people from all walks and is not to be missed. This electrifying event includes a powerful exhibit of commemorative stamps celebrating singular African-Americans and a PowerPoint presentation by philatelist (stamp collector) Clarence M. McKnight about the Civil Rights Movement stamps “To Form a More Perfect Union.” Mr. McKnight of East Orange has been collecting stamps since 1986.
