EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ - The East Brunswick Mayor's Office and the East Brunswick Clergy Council are sponsoring a food drive to help those who are currently furloughed by due to the partial federal government shutdown as it enters its 31st day.

"We feel terrible for the number of people who are caught up in the middle of a debate in Congress.  Lives and income are at stake.  We want to help those in our community as much as we can, " said Mayor Cohen in an interview today.

Various collection sites have been set up throughout the township, and the food collected will be delivered to Coast Guard bases down the shore. donations will also be sent to TSA workersat Newark Airport who are working without pay.

Residents are urged to donate whatever they can. 

The drive is also in need of gift cards in $20 increments to help them pay for gas for commuting.
