SPARTA, NJ - Mayor Molly Whilesmith honored Sparta High School graduate Isabella Cuan at the Sparta Board of Education meeting on Monday.
In the auditorium at Mohawk Avenue School, Whilesmith announced the Sparta Distinguished Student Award would go to the 2014 Salutatorian. Cuan had participated in the graduation ceremony on Cassels Field on Friday, June 20, giving a speech about inspiration.
Cuan was selected from the 329 students in this year’s graduating class based on her academic and artistic achievement. Her extensive community service was also a deciding factor. In addition to earning Salutatorian, Cuan earned the English and Biology Department awards. She will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia this fall to study photography.
