IN WESTFIELD – Meeker’s Florist on South Ave. West recently began donating fresh flowers to the roadside memorial for Donna Rothstein, the Westfield woman who died from injuries related to an accident that occurred while she was crossing the intersection of Prospect Street and Cowperthwaite Place on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Donna’s sister Lisa Ross, who lives in California and is unable to maintain the memorial herself, reached out to a Westfield resident who then contacted Sandy Fritz, owner of Meeker’s Florist.

“I was more than willing to help out,” said Fritz.

Fritz, who is not affiliated with the Rothsteins, donates flowers twice-weekly “until I otherwise am told,” said Fritz. “I go on Fridays for a delivery and another person will do the other day; either Mondays or Tuesdays,” she explained.

“We’re here to support the residents. We like to go above and beyond when we can and do what we can do. It makes you feel good knowing that in an unfortunate circumstance, you’re there for the family or the community,” said Fritz.

The memorial, located at the scene of the accident, is comprised of fresh flowers and a written eulogy.
