MILLBURN, NJ - At Monday's Millburn Board of Education (BOE) meeting, the board heard a presentation about diversity and inclusion efforts in the district.

Holly Foley, the instructional supervisor for grades five through eight was on hand to update the board about some of the projects the students had undertaken to learn those lessons in the curriculum.

Along with the Black Student Union's third annual performance, Fley said that students leaarned about racism, African-American history and other related topics through a variety of multimedia channels.

In one particular project, students were asked to use a movie-making software program to create a trailer about a historical event in the push for civil right.

Speaking with TAPinto after the meeting, Foley said that there were a few key thigns that most impressed her about the students who participated.

"Their continued empathy and inquiry about wanting to know more and wanting to know why and how can I help, and what can we do to change this." she said.

In terms of what curriculum the school district offered for lessons, Foley also said there's plenty of room to grow and expand what the district offers.

"I think we're always looking to grow and we're not containing it to just one special month, but throughout the year," Foley said. "We're trying to really maintain just global empathy and equity."
