WEST ORANGE, NJ - It came down to the very end in an evenly fought battle between West Orange (3-6-2) and Millburn (6-3-1) on Thursday afternoon to decide the winner of this SEC boys soccer matchup.
“When you let a team like this (Millburn) hang around, which we did, then make one mistake, it's a penalty kick and the game is over,” said West Orange's head coach Doug Nevins.
Millburn prevailed, 1-0. The penalty kick came with less than two minutes remaining off the foot of Millburn's Mike Sorin to break a 0-0 tie.
“We created some good chances in the first half going into the wind,” added Nevins. “The two or three chances we did have we didn't take well.” That ended up being the theme, as neither side could convert opportunities throughout the game.
The Mountaineers are now looking past this game and on to Belleville, a game that will decide their post season fate. “If we don't win, not only are we out of the counties but we're probably out of the state tournament,” said Nevins.
Marc Langendorff had 11 saves for the Millers. Josh Feinblatt made six saves for West Orange.
