MILLBURN, NJ — In the latest mayor's update yesterday afternoon, Mayor Jackie Lieberberg update residents on the latest COVID-19 totals in the township and county, as well as voting information ahead of the election. The full text is below;

Essex County is reporting 23,232 residents having tested positive for COVID-19. There are currently 195 residents of Millburn Township who have tested positive for COVID-19. The confirmed cases in Millburn are cumulative and residents are not removed from this count once they recover.  This number represents an increase of 6 cases since last week’s message.  At times these numbers can change when contact tracing is complete and it is verified that a positive result should be counted in another community or county.

  • There will be NO Electronic Voting Machines at your Polling Place on Election Day!

You can only vote 3 ways at your polling place on Election Day:

  1. Vote on a provisional paper ballot.
  2. Vote utilizing the audio component to listen to the ballot and make selections on a hand-held device (only if you are disabled)
  3. Bring your Vote by Mail Ballot to your polling place and drop your voted ballot in a Secure Drop Box inside your polling place.

You can go to the Hall of Records in Newark to request a ballot in person and vote that ballot Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday 9:00am - 4:00pm or at the Essex County Educational Center at 560 Northfield Ave West Orange on Thursday October 29 from 9:00am - 2:00pm Friday October 30 from 9:00am - 2:00pm and Saturday October 31 from 9:00am - 12noon

The deadline to request a replacement Vote-by Mail-Ballot by mail is today, October 23rd.

  • The November 3rd General Election is a primarily Vote by Mail Election as per Governor’s Orders.  Please know that there will be no traditional voting machines at polling locations on Election Day. Voters who choose to cast their vote in-person may do so on a provisional ballot (paper) only at the Township’s designated polling sites on Election Day.  Information will be forthcoming regarding the designated polling locations in Millburn Township. Individuals who require access to ADA-conforming voting machines may also vote at the Township’s designated polling sites on the day of the election. Millburn Township Seniors may request transportation to the Drop Box in front of Millburn Town Hall.
  • Once you complete your ballot, voters will have options for returning their own completed ballots to Essex County:
  1. Drop Box in front of the Milburn Township Municipal Building at 375 Millburn Avenue, Millburn (American Flag drop box is monitored by a security camera and the County will collect the ballots daily and bring them to Newark for processing)
  2. Mail the ballot via the United States Postal Service (ballots must be postmarked no later than November 3rd and be received by the County Clerk no later than 8:00pm on November 10th)
  3. Another option is to hand deliver your ballot to the Board of Elections in Newark at 465 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.
  4. Additionally, you may hand deliver your completed Vote by Mail ballot to a poll worker at your polling location on Election Day, November 3rd from 6 AM-8 PM.  If you do not bring your vote by mail ballot you will be given a provisional paper ballot. 

PLEASE REMEMBER - DO NOT DETACH THE CERTIFICATION FLAP!

  • Residents - the days are getting shorter.   When walking or cycling on our streets, and in particular the early evening/evening hours, be sure to wear reflective gear and obey the rules of the road.  At dusk, it is VERY difficult to see people and the wet leaves add to potentially dangerous roadways. PLEASE wear light colored or reflective clothing and use a flashlight.  Drivers - PLEASE.  SLOW. DOWN.
